2023 Ballora-Wang Young Composer Award at Penn State

The School of Music at Penn State University is pleased to announce the 2023 Ballora-Wang Young Composer Award at Penn State. This contest is open to students who are U.S. citizens and in high school during the 2022/2023 school year. Three composers will be named winners of the 2023 Ballora-Wang Young Composer Award. A minimum of one winner will be selected from the state of Pennsylvania. There is no entry fee. A panel consisting of Penn State faculty and students will evaluate the pieces and choose the winning entries. The winning entries will be announced by February 15, 2023.

Each of the winning composers will receive:
-$100 prize
-1-hour virtual or in-person composition lesson/consultation with a Penn State Composition and Technology faculty member.
-Possible performance of the winning work at a Penn State Living Music event.
-Work and composer featured on the Penn State Composition social media sites.

Composer must be a freshman-senior in high school during the 2021/2022 school year (or equivalent). Composer must be a citizen of the United States. Work can be any duration. Any instrumentation, including works for digital media, are eligible.
